About Matwerkz

Materials engineered where off-the-shelf runs out

We design bespoke materials for the most challenging product designs, and back them with our own lab. Advanced materials science, applied to real thermal-management and fire-protection problems.

Beyond Materials Science

Matwerkz Technologies is a Singapore deep-tech advanced-materials company, spun out of A*STAR in 2020. We specialise in thermal-management and fire-protection materials for emerging, rapidly expanding industries — electric vehicles, energy storage and data centers — where standard materials fall short.

Our founder is an active inventor credited with 20+ patents and know-how. Our adaptive Thermorphous® platform (and the Thermorphous FX25 grade co-developed with Sakata INX Corporation) is the result of in-house R&D accelerated by machine learning and simulation. And unlike a pure supplier, we run our own materials lab — so the team that formulates a material can also characterise it, diagnose why a part failed, and optimise how it is processed.

Our purpose

Vision

Materials for the safest, most sustainable products

To design critical materials for the world's safest and most sustainable products.

Mission

Safeguard lives and assets

To safeguard lives and assets by developing innovative materials that enable our customers to create safer and more efficient products.

How we develop materials

A deep-tech core: we compress the materials-development cycle with data and simulation, not trial and error alone.

AI-accelerated development

Accelerated materials development using machine learning and artificial intelligence to narrow the formulation space fast.

Materials design & formulation

From molecular formulation to a finished, processable grade — tuned to the substrate, temperature ceiling and form factor.

Multi-level performance simulation

We simulate performance across scales before a material reaches the bench, then validate it in our own lab.

Recognition

Grand Winner, SLINGSHOT 2024

A fire-protection barrier for batteries that beat over 5,500 start-ups from more than 150 countries.

In October 2024, Matwerkz was named the Grand Winner of SLINGSHOT 2024 — Enterprise Singapore's global deep-tech competition, held during the Singapore Week of Innovation and Technology (SWITCH) — and also took the Energy, Environment & Green Technologies domain prize. The winning technology is Thermorphous: an adaptive material that cools batteries in normal use and transforms into a fire-protection barrier during a thermal runaway.
